More and more rain last night and all day today! Left the empty campsite this morning. Owner nowhere to be found, no black or grey water drain either. The only working freshwater tap was difficult to access, especially after negotiating several trees and a steep ramp. I much prefer carparks! 😬
Drove around the coast to Xàbia, which gradually became familiar to us as we realised we’ve been here before. Had lunch before venturing out as we knew we’d get soaked. Went to visit the unusual ‘fishermen’s church’ first. A stunning piece of architecture which probably looks best from above. Built in the ‘60’s, Inside it resembles the hull of a boat and has a really nice feel about it.
Walked up to the old town in the rain – about a mile and a half. It seems that Guy has taken all the same pictures as he did in 2019 and we can actually see quite a bit of growth on the palm trees when comparing the two.
Came back drenched. Put everything to dry and then decided to drive inland to see some caves – must be dry in there!?
The cave of skulls ..didn’t find out the translation until we got out, is a 900 metre long prehistoric cave tunnel. It’s a huge place, where they found lots of skulls, both animal and human, teeth and various other bits and bobs you wouldn’t want to come across in the dark.
At the end of the boardwalk we met some divers, who said that the heavy rain had made the water rise up enough for them to get in and explore further – it went for many more hundreds of metres apparently.
Back at the van in the car park, we are on water watch – about 10cm forecast overnight. Where’s my snorkel?
