An excited twitcher got up early this morning and dragged his half asleep wife back up the road to look for the Northern Bald Ibis again. Off to Tamri we went, but at least the wind had died down so we didn’t get sand blasted.
Fortunately, we found the birds within minutes and a very helpful ranger showed us where to get closer without disturbing their breeding ground. Not sure how they’re protecting the 800 (in the world) remaining birds from the hundreds of quad bikes that will arrive later in the day. Guy got some good shots but has been having trouble with ‘LightRoom’, the editing app that he uses so may be a while before we can upload them.
I was talking to a lady from Brighton who was rather bravely travelling around on her own in a motorhome. The more avid birdwatcher was hoping we would be quiet at some point.
This afternoon, we drove into Agadir and went to Crocopark! 🤣🤣🤣
We’ve joked about this place since we passed it last year so we went in for a bit of a laugh.
It was absolutely brilliant – we loved it!
Where else would you see well over a hundred crocs basking in the sun with a flipping zip wire going over the top!!! Kids going on it too. It was a no from Guy, and I would have been more scared of the zip wire than the crocs below! 🤣
The whole place was beautifully set out with tropic trees and plants. The cactus garden was full of iguanas just wandering around. Some of them were huge! One loud woman got spat at as she tried to take a photo – it was difficult not to laugh!
Further round were giant tortoises or Spur Turtles, according the information board. Third largest species in the world – we watched one knock the other over and he fell down a ramp. We were horrified but I think they were just entertaining each other as the victim just climbed back up and walked away!
Snakes next! I went under a little tunnel to stand up inside a glass box within the snake enclosure. When my head bounced back off the roof, I realised that it was maybe for children! 🙄
We asked a member of staff what the crocodiles ate and he replied “Women, but they’re not eating at the moment as they’re doing Ramadan!”
Correct answer, usually chicken but it’s too cold for them to eat at the moment so they semi hibernate.
Fabulous afternoon – we’d recommend the place to anyone
coming to the madness of Agadir.
On a campsite now by the sea, just south of the Souss-Massa National Park. We don’t know how we got here in one piece given the Whacky Race driving we came through on the outskirts of the city. The campsite owner says it’s all because of Ramadan and everyone is rushing home to prepare the evening meal. I don’t think I’d drive the wrong way up a dual carriageway even if I was starving!
photos to follow again hopefully
