Kinderdijk

Here we are again, off on another (fully functional)van venture. Crossed over last night on the Chunnel and had a quiet night next to the Police Station in Gravelines.

There was a lot of rain and it was very windy at times …thought we might get washed away.

Off to Ghent this morning. We are actually on our way to Greece but thought we’d detour up into The Netherlands first to see the tulip fields. Seems to be the right time of year.

Ghent

Parked at an outdoor water sports place and set off for the thirty minute walk into town. Ghent is lovely, but not in cold and rainy weather. We had to dodge a random downpour so ended up eating frites with mayonnaise in a cafe….it’s the thing to do in Belgium – sure it’s not fattening! Walked along the river for a bit and saw the castle but then made our way back as it was so cold.

Decided to drive up to Kinderdijk where the windmills are, hoping to see some tulip fields as well – as shown in photos on Googlemaps. After battling through the worst traffic we’ve ever driven through, we discovered there are no tulips around the windmills 🙄Must have been fake photos we saw!

Had another walk around them anyway, under some very threatening skies, then back to the van to discover a note saying ‘no overnight parking’ so, onwards and upwards. After much faffing around, we’ve landed near another sports centre somewhere near Rotterdam (or anywhere, Liverpool or Rome)!

  1. Nice to see you guys back online. Life looks better without rain (unless you are a farmer). We are in NZ South Island. Hasn’t rained yet but will do so soon. Keep safe and keep great words and great pix coming 🙏
