Left Magnan late morning and headed towards Pau avoiding the motorway. The sky was a bit grey and we had our fingers crossed that the Somport Pass would be open. As we climbed higher, we started to see the snow; it was lovely, like driving through a Christmas card. Had to choose between the tunnel or the pass – chose the pass and luckily the road was clear and gritted.
We reached the ski resort at Candanchu quite quickly. Stopped for coffee and debated whether to stay there for the night. Snow forecast so we made our way back down and in to Spain. Landed at Jaca, where there’s free parking and services for motorhomes. The town is a bit crummy on the outskirts but has a lovely old centre. We walked to the old bridge,
the cathedral, then around the citadel, by which time, it was dark and very cold. Some tapas and red wine at Casa Fau gave us renewed energy for the walk home. Do we need dinner ?…
