Essaouira

That was no small accomplishment completed by the driver this morning!
We could not believe the state of the road out – not just deep puddles, but whole lakes across the road with no way of knowing their depth.
Guy had a chat with the campsite owners this morning, and fortunately, they had gone out to look at the state of the road at the same time as we left. As we hit the first lake, they directed us to the right hand side and we got through. I think the worst bit was further up, where the mud had been churned up by other vehicles. We had to keep going at some speed otherwise we would have got completely stuck! There was one small wheel spin but somehow we kept traction. Such a huge relief when we hit tarmac.
Guy emailed the owners later to say how ‘entertaining’ it was, and received a video back as they’d filmed the whole thing! They said what a good driver he was too!
I suppose when customers ring up to book in and ask about the state of the road, they can send them the demo video 🤣so they can see how it’s done! 😬
Drove about fifty minutes to Essaouira and parked at the southern end of town. By this time, I was feeling proper rough for some reason and had to curl up and sleep for a few hours.

Guy walked up to the harbour and old town and got some fish photos – glad he didn’t bring any back!
As there is no motorhome parking allowed at all in Essaouira, we’ve had to drive a little way south and parked up by a wind turbine on a hill. We did this last year and it seems to be the only suitable spot for miles around.

We’ll go back in tomorrow as I don’t want to miss one of the nicest places in Morocco
