Such a long way up through France. We always try and vary the route a bit if we can, but there’s no getting around the fact that you have to do a few hundred km a day if you want to get anywhere.
Trying to keep off the toll roads as diesel is around €2 per litre making it expensive enough already. In fact, we’d just got going on a nice free stretch of motorway when we had to detour off to find diesel at an affordable price. Unfortunately, the petrol station I found, which was really difficult to get to, was not for the average Joe – you had to have a special truckers card to use it! 8km further away from our route we found one, but by the time we got back on the motorway we’d probably spent the difference in price! 🙄😂
Stopped for lunch in Châteauroux, where we had a nice but quick walk around the Lac de Belle-Isle. Sunny and almost warm – woohoo!
Soon back on the A roads up towards Orléans with a quick stop to look at Château de la Ferte Saint -Albin, which was closed! Good heron on the water though.
Orléans was a bit of a nightmare as we came right through the centre at rush hour – took ages. Just as we were getting ready to stop, it suddenly seemed that there were no motorhome aires or suitable carparks. Now in a tiny village by a football field. We’ve had a walk to the interesting but broken windmill – also closed! 😬
