I think we’re going to have a long hard think about our plans over the next couple of weeks.

Left about 10:30am yesterday for a 5:20pm ferry. Thought we’d have a change from the tunnel as it’s so much cheaper…never again! Took us forever to get to Dover – we thought the traffic would be easier, it being a Saturday, but for every missing lorry there were six cars.

The long wait to get on and off, coupled with the dog sick on the stairs makes the tunnel seem like a dream.

Leaving Calais, we reached our usual overnight parking spot near Wissant, only to find that it was chock full of motorhomes. In fact, so was everywhere along the coast to Boulogne. We have never, ever, seen it so busy. Every bar and restaurant – totally rammed. We ended up eating dinner at the side of the road around 10pm and eventually found somewhere to sleep in a tiny village inland at about 11. We can only think that all the pensioners with motorhomes must wait for the week the children go back to school then set off!

Anyway, after a lovely quiet night, we woke early and made our way towards Veules-les-Roses, billed as  one of the most beautiful villages in France. Unfortunately, today it was also one of the busiest! Queues everywhere, for everything. It was lovely and the weather was glorious, but I think we both preferred nearby Étretat.

Overheating somewhat, we got back in the van (good excuse for air con), and made our way towards Caen and then St Malo.

When we were really ready to stop in the little town of Villedieu-les-Poêles-Rouffigny, we, once again found everywhere full! Luckily, we found a spot in one of the town’s carparks, blinds down, locked up and headed for the nearest bar. After the strongest Aperol Spritz ever, it’s taken me three hours to sober up enough to put a sentence together! ðŸ˜‚

Had Better Starts! 9/10 September 23🙄
