Rouen

It was sooo cold overnight -4 and the silly heating thermostat didn’t do what it was supposed to. I woke up about 4am to a whirring sound and tried to ignore it as I thought it was one of the boats on the marina we were parked at. Then Guy woke up and said it was the water pump and promptly turned it off. The frost valve had unceremoniously dumped all our fresh water to prevent the pipes from freezing. Great!

No water available at the marina as  it was also turned off due to the cold temperature. Good job we had some of the bottled stuff for a wash!

Walked into the centre of Rouen. It took about 40 minutes along the river. Could have done with a balaclava as it was so raw my face was freezing up. Worth the walk though. The centre is full of beautiful medieval streets accessed through an archway beneath the Gros-Horlage Clocktower.

Further in, there’s the huge gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral – the tallest in France apparently. Too cold to linger around for long, we made our way back to the van, then set off with all the lunch pots rattling in the sink as there was no water to wash up with!

Called at Intermarché for diesel, LPG and 8 x 8 litres bottled water for the tank!🙄

Landed just below Le Mans and it’s very slightly warmer, a balmy -2. Taps refused to work at first causing major panic but eventually the water spluttered through – hallelujah 🙌
