Well, that was a bit of an eventful night again! 😬The place was super busy so we weren’t expecting it to quieten down until midnight. We had forgotten however, that they play football nearby which seems to start around midnight. 🤣It sounds like a proper organised thing with a ref with whistle and a big crowd. Soon after that finished we had a man being sick noisily behind the van – it’s our theory that it was the muezzin who’d been on the pop, because despite the mosque being directly behind us, there was no call to prayer at 5am – odd!
Drove into Tetouan, not expecting much, but it turned out to be a lovely place. Everywhere clean and sparkling with a very Spanish feel to it – especially the UNESCO listed Medina. Hassle free and very pleasant to walk through. Even butcher street wasn’t too bad, but unsure of the fate of the tiny fluffy chickens running around their makeshift playpen.

We had a drink near the huge square that has a sparkling white, heavily guarded, Royal Palace at one end. We heard a woman screaming and shouting in a shop nearby and she was instantly surrounded by a huge crowd of onlookers. The police appeared and took a man to one side, but it all seemed to be escalating, so we made a hasty retreat before the riot started. Found another tannery but it didn’t seem to be in use today.
As the car park was on a big slope, we made our way back out to the coast for lunch. Parked at the far end of a pristine little resort called M’diq with no intention of leaving the van as lots of thefts reported. We watched two teenage girls trying to play basketball, they were both getting in such a tangle with their robes and scarves, but it was really nice to see, as all the beaches are full of gangs of boys.
Just washing the pots when a young lad stuck his head through the door – unbelievable! He soon scarpered and so did we ….to the port – enough is enough for one trip!
No Transmediterranian ferries have run today so far 🙄…many people have been waiting since early morning. I don’t think it matters what time you turn up at Tanger Med, it seems that nothing ever goes at the allotted time!
Anyway, not too bad for us in the end – it’s now 9:15pm and we’ve just departed!
