Right, birthday today, so let’s talk about Guy’s present to me first.
Yesterday, I was nudging him in to card shops as I didn’t think he would have remembered to get one before we came away – he had!
The present though…a big pink furry bag with ‘Hello Kitty’ theme plus a ‘Hello Kitty’ notebook, some new highlighters for my maps and one of those funky pens where you can select the colour! I laughed until I nearly fell out of bed!
It’s his ‘return to school’ present as when we’re away I always have recurring dreams about being lost in school, losing my timetable, being late, the list goes on. So, how lucky am I to have such a thoughtful husband?

Anyway, once we managed to get rolling, we had the mini adventure of a little ferry across the Rhône to avoid having to drive a long way inland. We arrived in Martigues just before lunch and managed to park easily at the side of the road.

Not sure how we managed to find this place but it was lovely – almost like a miniature Venice with its coloured houses and little bridges. Despite some watery sunshine it was quite cool and occasionally threatening to rain, so we sat down at one of the nicer restaurants by the canal thinking they’ll take us inside if it pours down!

Had a lovely meal and it warmed up slightly for a while, although that could have been the Muscat 🥂

We then travelled all of 13km back to the coast at Port de Carro where we’ve squeezed into the motorhome parking for two nights.

Went for a long walk around the rocky coast passing little beaches in coves. Surprisingly to us, virtually everywhere has closed down already for the winter or they’re in the process of it. There are still people about and it’s a lovely area …all seems a bit premature when the sun is still out (sometimes)!

Back at the van we are kind of overlooking the sea, but also a fish market that’s on

every morning. What’s that smell???
