After much debate, we decided to head back to Spain today. Trying to avoid the outbreak of dengue fever which is being spread by the tiger mosquitoes around Antibes. It’s a shame, as the Côte d’Azur was the region we were hoping to explore, but doesn’t seem worth the risk at the moment. There are even a few outbreaks in northern Italy so probably no good skirting around it.
Thought we’d have a look at Aix en Provence before we did our u turn but the chances of parking anywhere near were nil so we got on the motorway. I think we might just keep going until it gets warm!
Parked up for the night in Fitou, in a little car park that we’ve used before. Problem was, we’d forgotten that it’s sloping, so difficult to get level. There’s also a little pop-up pizza place now installed in the corner and as we were parked so close whilst trying to get the flattest spot, we would have felt bad if we hadn’t made a purchase! Not sure about this bread, cheese, ham and tomato diet were on!
Had a walk up into the town and got suckered into a little degustation. Always a bad idea! Just six bottles to carry back, so probably got off lightly.
Even the man in the cave said how cold it was for September – yet 42°C last month!
