Quiet night by the wind turbine except for the swooshing of course. 🤣
Drove back down to the town and got sand-blasted as we walked along the vast beach to the medina and port. It was so windy, and not very warm at first. We wandered through the little streets which are really pleasant as they are hassle free.
Entertainment was provided two men whitewashing a building whilst standing on a narrow platform held by rope from the top. It was like a circus act, the way they were reaching out whilst hanging on to the rope. No helmet and flip flops of course. Morocco’s health and safety at its finest.
In to the port next, where hundreds of fishing boats are moored – all painted the same shade of blue. Guy thought a lot of the stalls at the town end had the same fish for sale as yesterday ..a bit worrying when they’re sat in the sunshine.
We stopped in a crowd of people to watch a trawler full of sardines being unloaded. I have never seen so many fish in my life. It’s a wonder there’s any left in the sea!
They were being packed with ice and loaded on to the back of a lorry. In the middle of all the activity were three old ladies each holding a carrier bag and pouncing on any stray sardines that dropped to the floor or out of the box. The men loading up just completely ignored them so it must be fair game if it’s not in the crate! One did take a few out of the crate when the man wasn’t looking though! The ‘floor’ fish were then taken back down the jetty and sold …fresh today!
No purchase by us today.
Called at the supermarket and then started to make our way south with a view to stopping around the Timlalin dunes to try and see the Northern Bald Ibis again.
It was much further than we thought, but when we finally got there, the sand was whipping itself up into the sky and people were covering their faces – just too windy. We decided to come back in the morning and carried on past the banana plantations looking for a headland where we had parked last year. Couldn’t find it, but got an alternative overlooking the sea with wild surfing waves. Parked by a bush to get some wind defence like everyone else is doing – even the dogs!
photos to follow hopefully!
