Set off for San Jose which should have been an easy drive along the coast. The road passed by the Laguna de Rosa and we could see flamingos wading but couldn’t get close enough for a good photo as it’s a fenced off conservation area. We then reached the lighthouse at Cabo de Gata and at this point realised we’d come to a dead end! Had to drive all the way back to our starting point, then go inland. Took forever, and when we actually reached San Jose it was too built up for us to find parking. We carried on along the coastal road, more plastic greenhouses with what looked like shanty towns dotted between them. Got to Las Negras, which was quite nice but no supermarket to speak of, so back inland for a Lidl shop! Gave up then; got on the motorway for a bit. Ended up here at the port at La Garrucha. A lively town with a fishing harbour. Guy went for a bike ride and Rufus and I had a walk to the beach. The cyclist came back and promptly hung up his sweaty shorts from the light fitting in our bedroom – I really don’t think this is on! They have been removed. We’ve had Paella for dinner 🥘, so now the van smells delightfully of fish, sweaty cycling kit and our smelly dog! We don’t have any air freshener….it’ll have to be Prada!
The locals are just gearing up for a rowdy Monday night. Got to hope they’ve got work in the morning or it’s going to be a late one.
