Rained all night in Brecon; didn’t want to get up,but we needed to buy a car park ticket – no Ringo app here 😬

Walked around the town in the rain. Not a lot to see really.

Drove on towards Pen y Fan and parked in a big lay-by. Had lunch and it was still raining. I’d read it was due to clear up mid afternoon but Guy being Guy, could see a mountain to run up and got very fidgety. Off we went!

Very steep path, both feeling a bit unfit. After reaching one ridge, it went down the other side and crossed over a stream.

Then it really rained and the wind came from nowhere and blew a gale as we battled our way up the other side. The last 100 metres turned into a terrifying scramble (for me anyway) but at least it was flat at the top. By this time the cloud had moved in and it was like thick fog!!

Knowing I had to somehow get back down the steep bit, we got our breath back, then started back down immediately.

So wild and windy on the descent. My walking pole was playing tunes as the wind whistled through the holes in it …a bit like me trying to play London’s Burning on the recorder back in Junior School. Fortunately, at one point, the cloud miraculously cleared in seconds leaving us with incredible views.

To cap the day off, once back at the van, we realised we had only been up to Corn Du – not the very top.

Guy is very, very, disappointed 😬🙄

Pen y Fan (Not a Fan ☹️)
