The very tired driver slept a solid eleven and a half hours last night. We decided that all the mini roundabouts, chicanes and general street furniture make for difficult driving in a motorhome.
In order to get some way south without the trouble, we got on the toll road past Le Mans, stopping just south at Mayet for lunch. When I put the ticket into the machine, we were both making wild guesses at the cost, but neither of us thought it would be €43!!!! We only did about 80 miles. I like the idea of a toll system, but that’s flipping extortionate.
Back on the A roads in the afternoon, which were thankfully a little bit straighter than yesterday’s. We passed many tractors, trailers and combine harvesters on our route through fields of melons and sunflowers.
The road in to Poitiers was pretty straightforward and we got designated motorhome parking just 15 minutes walk from the Cathedral. Fifteen minutes uphill though – deserves an ice cream!
The town is lovely. Don’t think we’ve actually been into the centre before although we can’t be entirely sure 😬 As it’s a university town, it’s buzzing with life. The cafes are busy in the two main squares and the streets in between are full of happy shoppers. Shame the Norte Dame church was having work done, but it still looked pretty stunning. Everywhere is very clean and there was even a free shuttle bus if we’d wanted to use it, that ran between the car park and the cathedral. Maybe that’s where the toll money goes! 🤣

  1. Hiya peeps. Finally catching up with your Blogs. We’re away in the van on our way to my brother’s in the Dordogne. Still getting to grips with our new van & now the boiler’s playing up. Hoping it’s just a fuse 🤞

    1. Ah..boilers! We’ve had issues too – not least mice chewing at the wires to the gas valve 🙄Think it happened whilst it was in storage surrounded by fields. Seemed like non stop shelling out money before we came away.
Hope you manage to solve it and have a great trip xx
