Well, it’s back to trousers and jumpers and coats today, but we are three quarters of the way up Mount Etna! Drove up late morning looking for a suitable place to park, ready to watch the Giro d’Italia tomorrow. The volcano 🌋 was shrouded in fog as we made our way up the bendy roads so didn’t get much of a view. Found the perfect spot, but there were Police signs everywhere saying no parking on the 10th. As we were just off the road, we thought maybe it would be ok. We walked up towards the finish with Rufus who was loving the 10 degree temperature ….feels really cold to us! Have to say, this stretch of road is the smoothest we’ve driven on in the whole of Italy – it’s all just been newly tarmac’d ( don’t know how to spell it – don’t think it’s a real word anyway!) for the race and ends abruptly at the finish line. 😂 We sat down on a log for a while and watched the owner of a b & b decorate his tree with paper flowers. His wife asked if we were here to watch the race and we told them we’d parked our motorhome further down the road. They said the police would move us on in the morning and very kindly said we could park at the back of their house – so here we are 200 metres from the finish!! When we walked down to fetch the motorhome, Rufus did a flat refusal – he hates u-turn walks anyway but think he’d definitely had enough today. I had to wait with him whilst Guy went back to get it. There are loads of dogs barking and howling tonight; thankfully Rufus is managing not to join in so far. If it suddenly feels warm in the night we’re going to drive downhill really fast!
