We decided to catch a bus up to Taormina this morning. This is a totally alien concept to Guy as he doesn’t like to share transport with ‘the great unwashed!’ Fortunately, the passengers were all washed. The bus driver, however, was a complete nutter. I haven’t been so scared on a bus since Corfu 1985! Hairpin bends at warp speed up and down a mountain side. Apparently, if you beep the horn before a blind bend, you don’t need to slow down at all! Thankfully, Rufus had decided to stay in the van with the fan on – he would not have been impressed with the 20 minute journey at all. It was a very picturesque place with amazing views, although completely overrun with tourists (like ourselves), day trippers, cruise shippers, bus trippers – very busy. Tat shops one end and expensive designer stuff the other – nothing we wanted at one end, nothing we could afford at the other! The ‘Teatro Antico de Taormina’ was well worth the entry fee – see pictures. Once we got back into Naxos, we called in at the dentists. Guy decided to have the tooth taken out seeing as the filling didn’t stick. The dentist said “I can do it in a couple of minutes”- I could tell that Guy was not expecting that! He did, however, have to go to the pharmacy first to get some antibiotics which the dentist gave him a prescription for. By the time he’d done that, it was time for their two hour lunch so he got a reprieve till 3 o’clock. In the meantime, I’d started to walk back as we’d left Rufus for three hours ( we knew he’d be snoring 💤- and he was!) but my sense of direction is so rubbish I went the wrong way. 🙄Guy was nearly back before me. So, the offending tooth was duly removed for €70 …probably a bit cheaper than England. But then €10 for 10 extra strong Ibuprofen is a bit steep – 28p in Sainsos! He’s washed them all down with a glass of wine so I know he’s ok!
