Left at 8am this morning and the roads were freakishly quiet at first. There were signs up on the motorway telling people to stay at home. The sun was out and we passed lots of castles on hills and other tempting places to visit – but not today.

As we got up towards Barcelona, the motorways were gradually filling up with white boxes like ours, all rushing to get out. Queues for diesel and all the kiosks closed apart from one person at the hatch in mask and gloves to take money.

Tried to stop for food but all the shops that said they were open Sunday were well and truly closed. Near the border at La Jonquera we found an Esclat open, but hardly anything in there and prices inflated.

Breathed a sigh of relief as we crossed into France . Found motorhome parking in Le Boulou – supposedly for ten vehicles…there

must be 100 of us refugees here!

715km was one hell of a drive by the heroic husband. We just have to hope now that France doesn’t follow suit with movement restriction in the next few days.

The Great Escape…sort of!

  1. Hi, how are you both? Thanks so much for that kind offer…we’re half way up the country and doing our best to get home. Hopefully they’ll let us out even if they put restrictions on people coming in. X

  2. We’re both fine thanks. Have not heard of any restrictions coming into France yet! Our house ion the outskirts of a small village would be a great place for us to stay away from the plague thing. I’m sure you’ll be fine getting home b

  3. Macron’s just set out some restrictions on movement. I think it’s Europe as a whole that’s looking at borders. Strange times eh!? X Hope you get across- like you say, good place for isolation
