Sunnyish first thing this morning and after sleeping like a log from 10pm till 8:45am, a fully refreshed Guy decided to go back up the mountain – the easier way. This time he made it to the true summit of Pen y Fan and was up and back in one hour and fifty minutes! Me? Well, I was washing my hair.

At last!

After a coffee, we set off for Pontneddfechan, where there’s a lovely walk up the side of the River Neath with many waterfalls. Lovely that is, if it doesn’t hammer down with rain, soaking us through to the skin and creating much mud underfoot.

Just before the heavens opened, we came across a few families bravely bathing in the mud coloured waters. It all looked a little polluted to me – lots of strange foam in places.

After a complete change of clothing, we drove down towards Neath in search of a garage that might supply water to fill up the van. No joy. There’s quarter of a tank left so really hoping we can sort something out tomorrow.

Turned back inland again and have parked for the night in the wilds of the black mountains on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons. Herbert’s Quarry looks worth an explore tomorrow – weather permitting 🙄

  1. Hi Both. Lovely to catch up on your travels. My first ever mountain biking trip was to the Brecon Beacons – I remember the mud and rain well! Amazing it didn’t put me off. Hope you get some sunshine to see the land of the dragons in a better light.
    Love to all

    1. Hi Suzanne, lovely to hear from you and hope you are all ok. Yes, we definitely need some sunshine soon – it all seems a bit grim at the moment. Some good hills around for mountain biking ..you must be made of tough stuff 😊Hopefully we can get together sometime when we get back. Would be lovely to see you xx
