Well, our car park has certainly filled up today. In fact, now, at 8pm it’s rammed!
We went into town to the tourist office this morning to see if we could get tickets for the play in the square at 10pm, but I think they sold out months ago! We’ll be happy to see the procession through the streets afterwards though, which should include the macabre Dance of Death.
Down one of the narrow streets the townsfolk were busy turning it into the street of snails! 🐌 Men with buckets of plaster were dotting the walls, whilst the women followed sticking on snail shells. Each shell has a wick in it, plus some kind of flammable oil. All to be lit later when the procession goes through.
We came back to have lunch then went back in at about 3:30pm, at which point the whole town seemed to be asleep! You could’ve heard a pin drop.
Gradually, the town filled up to bursting point at 5pm, when the drums started and the Roman soldiers came marching through the streets with trumpets and drums. Quite a spectacle.
Back at base again now, twiddling our thumbs until midnight! 😬
Happy birthday to my 60😳 year old bro’ today x
