Surprisingly, a really quiet night in the motorway rest area. There was a note on the windscreen from an English couple who’d parked directly behind us, saying it seemed like the only safe place after the border trauma! In fact, there were bodies everywhere when we looked around. People were asleep on the grass like refugees.

The sun was shining as we set off and everything just looked instantly different. It was much less humid and everywhere looked dry and dusty.

The Lidl shop just outside Alexandroupoli gave us a challenge trying to read what the prices related to – it’s all Greek to us! 😂

There was a beach right opposite the shop, so we parked up and sat there with our coffee and chocolate croissant.

Deciding it was a bit scruffy, we moved on, thinking there’ll be better ones around the corner.

There was. We are parked somewhere nearly opposite the island of Thassos. Right next to a white sand beach with nice clear sea. There are two low key beach bars further up the road, but that’s it. Perfect.
