It was a struggle to get to sleep last night as we’d somehow let a load of wildlife into the van – I’m not a fan of anything with more than four legs! We think being parked by a still river didn’t help and as it got cold all the mosquitoes were finding their way around the blinds, but how a big moth managed it, I don’t know!

Short drive to the lovely little town of Nin this morning, to have a look around the salt works. If I’ve understood the nice, informative, shop lady correctly, through the summer the salt cycle happens every 10-15 days! Through the winter they just do maintenance but get paid the same all year round. Nin also has the oldest church in Croatia, 800AD – it’s bare inside, but you can tell it’s really old.

Had another look at the brilliant Grgur Ninski statue – only just found out why he has a golden toe! You’re supposed to rub it for good luck …it’s a bit far to go back now.
Driving up the very beautiful coast road, we stopped for lunch and sat with our coffee on some rocks. After just missing a Kingfisher, Guy managed to get photos of a little mouse and a lizard.

Continuing north, our next stop was the picturesque little port of Jablanac; from here we walked around the cliff side path to the spectacular Zavratnica Cove. It was so hot in the sunshine compared to a very cold start this morning. The water is so clear in the cove that you can see a submerged barge and loads of fish.

Already late in the day, it was another hour to the nearest Lidl and we had no food in the fridge, so off we went again.

Looking across to the islands of Pag and then Rab, the scenery has been stunning especially when the sun started to set.

Dark when we emerged from the shop! Now tucked up in a little car park in the town of Novi Vinodolski.
