Quiet night in the car park and a quick blast of fresh air on the seafront this morning before we set off for Slovenia.

After much debate about the route, we followed the coast up to Rijeka then straight up the motorway to the border at Rupa. Straight through both passport controls – the books are filling up quickly with in/out stamps now!

Suddenly, we are in Slovenia and the motorway has turned into A road. The funny thing is, Slovenia now feels like we are nearly home, whereas a few years ago, when we first came here, it felt like a massive adventure off the beaten track!

I suppose one of the reasons it feels familiar is that the roads are full of lorries, oh, and it’s cold!

Stopped on the Ljubljana ring road for lunch and service point then carried on another thirty minutes up to Lake Bled.

Still a lovely picturesque place, whatever the weather and certainly a whole lot quieter than when we last came. Had to pay €20 to park for the night, but this is a whole lot better than the €40 charged in high season.

Aware of how early it’s getting dark, we decided to walk around Bled itself, rather than the lake. There’s not a lot here though, so we made our way up to the 11th century cliff top castle.

Guy was galloping up the steps – trying to undo eleven weeks of too much cheese, wine, bread and olive oil. What he needs is a gentle Saturday Parrots ride! 🤣🤣🤣

Me? Well, I’d taken the coat off by the time we reached the top and was in need of resuscitation, but all we did was have quick look at the view then start the descent.

Had a look in the beautiful St Martina Parish Church on the way back down – it had a great chandelier, shame it wasn’t lit.

Back at the van, legs are killing 😂…I think I prefer a gentle swim in warm seas!
