An early start with a beautiful sunrise got us on to an earlier train at the tunnel. Making sure we were date stamped out of the Schengen zone, I checked our passports before handing them over to the English border control. The stamp makes no sense at all! It’s a mixture of Roman numerals and numbers that look something like July. 🙄 The English officer agreed and said “Well, it looks like you can come back sooner than you thought”! What a system!

We had booked on to Abbey Wood campsite near London, to see the boys Friday evening. It’s a Caravan Club site with all the accompanying rules and snobbery.

Being early, it seems, is a major crime. “I could turn you away” says the welcoming man in reception. “I’ve only got three empty pitches…”

“I only need one!!!” Says Guy.

“But earliest check in is 12”

What planet are they on? If we hadn’t paid in advance, I think we’d have driven away, but it’s the only campsite within striking distance of London, so we needed it.

Anyway, after a recovery nap, we got into the city mid afternoon using the wonderful new Elizabethan Line. Arriving at Liverpool St, we mingled in with all the ‘workers’ getting gradually sloshed on a Thursday afternoon. 😂 Callum tells us Thursday is the new Friday!

Had a lovely night with Callum, Jordan and Kristina – just missing Abi. Unusual food at a Nordic restaurant with headache giving cocktails to finish. 😉

Back up to Nottingham Friday. Many traffic jams turning it into a four and a half hour journey. The service station on the A1 was rammed with people, you would have thought it was a bank holiday!

All in order back at base, other than a broken dustbin. Think someone must have tried to turn around in the tiny space on the front of the house.

Thanks all for keeping in touch, comments etc. Hope we haven’t bored you rigid, but will no doubt do it again anyway! 😂 See you in ‘23!
