After reading up on yesterday’s memorial in Stavelot, Guy took us across country this morning to the Ardennes American Cemetery where more than 5300 soldiers from the Battle of the Bulge are buried. As always, the scale of these things is just gob smacking but we always love the fact that these places are so well kept. The lawns are immaculate – not a weed in sight and the white marble crosses look like they’ve been polished. It’s a beautiful and fitting tribute to those that gave their lives.

Drove on to Namur then, with the hope of having a nice lunchtime walk along the river. No chance! There was a bike race on and the car parks were jam packed. After five circuits of the city, we realised that we only saw about one tenth of it last time we came. 🙄
An hour later, we had to give up and get back on the motorway. A lunch stop with the roaring traffic.
Up towards Dunkirk we went to the wrong Hypermarket for our usual coffee, so had to go to a different one. So that’s two shops…one too many for Guy!
A walk on the beach at Gravelines had been mentioned, but we passed probably about a hundred migrants with carrier bags and shopping trolleys, in fact people were popping up everywhere. It’s such a sad sight, but we daren’t leave the van unattended so carried on to the secure parking at Calais. ☹️
