By the time we’d got ourselves organised this morning, every man and his dog was queueing up to use the services, so we decided to sort it all out later. Quick stop to pick up some Frankenwein now we’ve developed a taste for it, then straight onto the motorway up towards Frankfurt.

It was busy, busy, busy, with lorries everywhere and cars vying for pole position on any stretches where there’s no speed limit. 🙄

We stopped for lunch by the River Main just west of Frankfurt. Not an attractive area, but we managed a quick walk in the hot sunshine.

Driving up towards Belgium later on, we got a message from a friend on a motorhome forum. He was driving through Serbia and had almost exactly the same thing happen to him as us – loud bang, car flags you down and says there’s something wrong. Lorry driver on his way home but will take you to the nearest garage. Guess what? Same garage as us, two big dogs, same man.

We now think we were involved in quite an elaborate scam to the tune of nearly £500. Guy had been thinking this for a while as he thought it was strange that our van was still driving ok when the chap took us in. Not much we could have done in the circumstances – if you don’t speak the lingo and think you’re about to have a major breakdown, easy target. No wonder they offered us Pizza!

Now just inside Belgium in a lovely little place called Stavelot. I think the temperature is the hottest it’s been in the last two months! There’s a fascinating war memorial here by a bridge – the location of a fierce battle in WW2. It has a restored American half track vehicle to mark the spot.

In to Belgium 9/6/23
