Le Touquet

Set off yesterday lunchtime on another grand tour of France, Spain and a bit of Portugal. Probably the worst journey down to the tunnel we’ve ever had. The Dartford Crossing was closed and all traffic got re-directed through the Blackwall Tunnel in the centre of London. Not what we’d bargained for. Could have stopped off for a cuppa at both Callum and Jordan’s had we not already been an hour late for the Chunnel 🙄.

Parked in the secure motorhome aire at Calais for the night – it was very blustery and freezing cold. When the rain came in the night it was so squally, it sounded like buckets of water were being thrown over the van. Didn’t get to sleep till 4 ish so it was a very late wake up.

Guy wanted to head straight to Rouen, but I thought it would be getting dark by the time we arrived, so we stopped off at Le Touquet (the Parisians local beach) for lunch. Got out for a walk – it was Baltic! Guy was not happy and had the audacity to liken it to Skeg!

Set off for Rouen on the free roads, swapping over to extortionate toll roads when the driver got fed up with the roundabouts. Somewhere along the route, satnav rerouted us via Amiens and we didn’t notice until it was too late. Another long unnecessary drive.

Complicated city centre roads brought us to the marina parking, where the big metal gate swiftly closed on us as we approached. Fortunately, a man came out towing his boat and very kindly let us in – we’ll have to pay the boss tomorrow when they’re open.
