It’s been a day of contrasts really. Drove a couple of miles down the road into the coastal resort of Foça, and for once, it lived up to its description. It was a lovely place to walk around but best of all, it was clean. This is the first clean place we’ve come across since we entered Türkiye!

There was a castle and a lovely harbour with a thriving fish market. We really should have stayed there for the day!
Instead, after buying a bag full of tomatoes and green peppers for 70p, we made our way towards Izmir, hoping to find somewhere for lunch en-route.

Izmir arrived before we were ready for it! What a vast city of high rise office and apartment blocks. We made an attempt to stop in a small picnic area by the water’s edge but there was an overwhelming smell of dead fish so we ended up at a service station further along.

We are aiming to get to Ephesus tomorrow which involves an early start. Thought we’d park a few km away at Pamucak beach which looked like a vast expanse of sand and sea with campers and caravans parked left, right, and centre. The trouble was, it was really windy, creating a bit of a sandstorm plus it was filthy. Rubbish everywhere and even the sea looked dirty.

Couldn’t decide what to do, so ended up driving into the huge resort of Kuşadasi. Bad idea in a motorhome- I think we even knew that before we ventured in! 🤣
We’ve never heard of the place but it is ‘very popular with boozy Brits, Irish, and Australians’ according to the Rough Guide.
Came out the other side miraculously unscathed, then drove back up to Ephesus to see if we could park there overnight. Not a chance! “You can park at the beach at Pamucak” says the man, (un)helpfully.
So here we are again, back at the beach but weirdly, it has started to rain. That’ll keep the dust down I suppose 🤣
