Caught the bus into the city this morning. It only took about 15 minutes. I know that I’ve said this before, but this capital city is lovely.

It has a colourful old town, a castle, a river running through it with beautiful bridges, pavement cafes and today, a fabulous market with top notch fruit, vegetables and flowers. There’s always music playing and chestnuts roasting too.

We had a walk up to the castle and around the grounds. Everywhere is looking very autumnal which is a bit of a shock to us as only two days ago we were roasting!

We then decided to go and have a look at the AKC Metelkova Mesto, described as a hip urban culture centre with underground music, theatre and arts events. It’s certainly a very colourful area with some stunning graffiti and artwork but I wouldn’t recommend it on a Saturday morning. 😬There were quite a few druggy zombies walking around and what looked like dead bodies lying in the street.
It’s all contained in this one little ‘autonomous’ area though, and the city itself is one of the safest in Europe.

After walking back to the main square and seeing a man with an ostrich 🤣, we caught the bus back and set off on the road to Austria.

Had to be careful as we have a vignette for Slovenia’s motorways but don’t want to buy one for Austria as it’s far too complicated and expensive. So, motorway to the border, then A roads.
Passport check again. They’re all at it now, but I think it’s a good thing really.

Immediately we seemed to be on a mountain pass with steep hairpin bends. We weren’t expecting that to happen quite so quickly! Brilliant scenery even if we did only just make it up the hill!
Parked up in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, closer to the lake than the town. It seems to be a very popular area with families as there are boat trips and stuff to see and do. We had a walk around and tried to wait for the sunset but it was cloudy and turned cool. Out comes the winter duvet!

Ljubljana, then in to Austria 26/10/24
