We had a dreadful night’s sleep last night to say we were parked in a very peaceful car park by the lake with one or two other vans. Around 11pm it seemed like a race track started up on the little tracks around the lake – all tyres squealing, engines revving and popping exhausts. One in particular carried on until about 3am. Then it sounded like a party started nearby.
Guy made coffee at 7:15 which wasn’t appreciated…”but it’s really 8:15!!”. I really wanted that extra hour this morning.
We set off on the A roads for a three hour drive to Hallstatt – a small scenic town on a lake of the same name.

Very beautiful, autumnal scenery – green, reds and gold everywhere with plenty of mist hanging in the valleys. It was quite hard going as some of the roads turned into single track, so we stopped for early lunch in the town of Tamsweg.
Had a walk along the river in the cool sunshine, then a wander through the centre to see the colourful shops and Rathaus.

Carried on driving for another hour then realised we’d reached the equivalent of Matlock Bath on a Sunday afternoon. Parking impossible. We were directed to a garage, where they said we could park for a few hours, but not overnight for €20 🙄 I don’t think so!

In the end, we’ve ended up paying that anyway, but it is for 24 hours and does have services.
The downside is that it’s 50 minutes walk from the town. It was too late to walk in this afternoon as the sun goes down early.
Had to play cards and listen to Johnnie Walker’s last ever ‘Sounds of the Seventies’. Very sad. 😢
