That very lucky afternoon/evening we had yesterday turned into a very unlucky night!
We should know by now never to park near a park bench! About 8:30pm a few Moroccan men came up to chat bringing a folding chair for extra seating. A very heated discussion ensued for a couple of hours and I’d just said “This could go on all night” as we know they are nocturnal, when they suddenly packed up and went home. Bliss.
10:30pm the kids arrived for a meet up. Much laughing, squealing and shouting.
Midnight a car arrives to join the kids playing very loud rubbish music!
Please be quiet 🤫 we’re thinking.
Not a chance!
1:30am Guy and Janet get up, remove ramps and drive off into the night! 🤣 It is their town, not ours and it’s a chance we take every time we’re not on a campsite.
There was a big empty car park, just down the road about a mile away, we could still hear them in the distance but it was so much better… until the flipping dogs started! Think we were near some kennels as when one started, about thirty more joined in!
Zombies this morning.
We decided to drive about 10km up the road to see the monastery at Poblet, thinking it had a huge car park where we are allowed to stay the night…surely has to be a bit quieter!
I couldn’t function until I’d had more sleep, so went off to bed. Resurfaced at lunchtime, at which point Guy decided he needed an hour.
It was about 3:30pm before we ventured into the monastery. So glad we visited though – it’s probably one of the most beautiful we’ve been to.
Once the great monastery of Catalunya, this great sprawling complex dates back to 1151. It was burnt down in 1835 and then re-populated in 1940 by Italian Cistercians who have restored most of it to its former glory.
Beautiful cloisters with a fountain in the middle and rooms leading off left right and centre.
The chapel has a very unusual and huge altarpiece made from carved stone. Just fine details everywhere like the iron handrails on the stairs made into serpents. Of course they make wine and there’s the obligatory gift shop, cafe, restaurant and even a hotel here! Who needs a hotel when you can listen to street life all night? 😬🤣😴
