Two de-tours from the itinerary today which Guy had spotted whilst doing his extensive research during ‘tech hour’! 🤣 This place, Civita, wasn’t even in the rough guide but was astounding. Had to walk uphill and through a town first, then paid €3 each to go down some steps and then finally across a huge, incredibly steep, pedestrian bridge to the old town standing completely alone on a rock. Don’t think you’d get Tesco to deliver there!! Fantastic views all round and the place was really pretty and not ‘over done’. By the time we got back to the car park for lunch we only just managed to catch the last bread shop closing. Dried out Focaccia it is then.
Made our way to Lago Di Bolsena in the afternoon and although I wasn’t keen on the idea, it was absolutely lovely. Cool breeze for Rufus and crashing big waves onto the dark volcanic sand. Seemed very upmarket- some big hotels. Had my picture taken with a lion at the entrance to one (Janet and the Lyron 😂) but Rufus was not impressed. Drove on to Orvieto, ready for a trip up the hill on a bus tomorrow. We are bitten to death by mosquitoes and now it’s pouring with rain. Thought we were on a nice, quiet, well kept site but there are train lines on both sides and they seem to be every five minutes.F96A9285-069D-462E-B205-5496171AA840
