Well, we left at ten – ish and there was no sign of Ivan so we’ve had a free night camping. It’s not like we used any facilities, so I don’t feel too bad – all we did was park on his land for the night! I wanted to feed his dog but Guy wouldn’t let me in case I got rabies again – he hates that foaming at the mouth thing. ☹️ The road back up was a bit scary but somehow we made it …the van was doing 5.9 mpg on the way. Any more of that caper and we’ll be putting diesel in every hour! Decided to drive straight up the island to the hip and trendy Hvar Town. The roads got smoother and wider thankfully. The outskirts of the town were a bit grim and we decided to call at a small supermarket for some provisions. “You can’t park there” came the cry from a member of staff on a fag break. Then they saw us get our shopping bags out and said “Oh! Are you coming in to shop?” …er, yes – it has been known for us to sleep in supermarket car parks but only your big Intermarches or Carrefour – we’re quite picky! Hvar was really nice, old cream coloured stone buildings and paved pedestrianised streets. Signs everywhere saying ‘enjoy our town but don’t walk round in your swimwear or drink on the streets’ -guess they’re trying to avoid it turning into the Costa del Sol! Saw a Pomegranate tree for the first time – didn’t do scrumping though. Walked up to the castle where we met a Chinese girl called Cari, who was travelling on her own. She couldn’t believe we’d bought a motorhome across Europe and seemed fascinated. She talked and talked till eventually we had to make our excuses and got away. Sat down for a coffee in the cafe when a voice said ‘Hawo again’ could you just take another photo for me please?’ Think she popped up twice more – began to think she was stalking us! We drove from the car park just over the headland to the nearest campsite. It’s half empty. The chap said they’re closing in a few days ‘end of the season’. ‘That’s not open, this isn’t working, shop’s closed but we’ll still charge you full whack for a night! 😂 We asked why they were closing so early and he said we wouldn’t want to be here in a couple of weeks – the wind is so cold! Think we experienced a bit of that the other day! Met a nice Canadian couple whilst walking Rufus, 76 and 77 years old. They’ve flown over to Zagreb and hired a motorhome for two months. Sounds like they’ve been everywhere and had some good stories till Rufus showed them his snapping teeth because we’d stood around too long!
