Was so glad to be on a campsite last night. All seemed calm this morning although the warmth has gone out of the sunshine a bit. We’d travelled a fair way down the coast so it didn’t take long for us to reach Drvenic – we decided to do the 35 minute ferry crossing to the island of Hvar. Guy and Rufus were very excited about going on a boat. Thirty minute wait, but then straight on and off in no time. Massive queue the other side though for coming back. 213CD5CA-B05D-4F40-9FDB-2ED30BF2C12BStarted driving up the island’s one road. It was quite narrow and just dropped away at the sides, no edge, no pavement and sometimes a steep drop. The road went on and on with no lay-by’s, towns or other stopping points. After some time, there was a sign for a cove, so Guy took it upon himself to turn left! We zig-zagged down the side of a mountain until it turned into a small gravel track. The cove was definitely inaccessible to motorhomes. Mr Bramley used his advanced driving skills to turn around, and back up we went. Somewhere further along the main road we saw a sign for Ivan’s Kampsite and as we were starving (3pm ish), we thought we’d just go there and stay overnight. Cue repeat of earlier performance but with the added joy of hairpin bends and 16% gradient 😮! We arrived at Ivan’s to find it completely deserted apart from a poor stray dog. The gate wasn’t locked, so we opened it so that we could turn around. A chap appeared from nowhere and rang the owner for us. He said it was ok to stay and he’ll be back tomorrow! 🤣 €10 or €20 – he wasn’t sure which. There were so many wasps around it was almost impossible to eat out. The cove itself though, wow – beach to ourselves apart from a boat moored just offshore. Not really warm enough to take a dip though. Back in the van now …planning how on earth to get back up the hill tomorrow 🤭
