Well, it was down to about one degree last night..I kept hearing the heating clicking in and out. This morning, I had to dig out the fleece, hat and gloves – it was so cold we decided to drive up to the town rather than walk. Parked just below the giant gateway into the town and then made our way in. Bought tickets to get into both the church and the castle – well worth it; both were stunning. The church had a carved spiral staircase in it and the altar bit looked like it was all made out of solid gold! 10B41786-AC41-4A7A-87D8-BD747A042C1F726A8FA1-89AD-4B98-A201-7211D8690F13
We were too early to get in the castle, so walked downhill back into the town to have coffee. We went inside a little cafe as it was so cold. The noise in there was crazy – the Spanish rival the Italians for talking really loudly. We had to shout across the table to each other and I think we were the only ones drinking coffee at 10:45am …the rest of them had started on the alcohol! Back up to the castle, and what a climb. The path seemed to spiral around the whole thing at first then turned into a really steep staircase. The views from the top made it all worthwhile -you could see for miles around.
Drove on then to a place called Calaceite. Had lunch and went for a walk round. Lovely old town but everyone was asleep, think they’d been at the cafe earlier!💤!
Back to the coast at the end of the day – just when you don’t want trouble with google maps and parking. Although there was a white knuckle ride down (and up) a steep slope we’ve finally ended up in a good place on the quayside in L’Ametlla de Mar.
