Last night was bonkers. The carpark turned into a meeting place for boy racers again, all competing to blast out the loudest bass 🙄 Then, at 3am, the street sweeper machine kept going up and down the same strip in front of where we were parked (accidentally on purpose).

Like a pair of zombies this morning, we drove out of town and got on the main road up towards Siauliai. On the way out we passed some really tumble down wooden shacks, followed by several rows of communist looking tower blocks. The road surfaces weren’t great in places, it was very windy and threatening to pour down for most of the journey. Nothing to see but fields of wheat and very flat all the way.
The Hill of Crosses is a sort of pilgrimage site which the Russians tried to bulldoze but local people carried on putting crosses there. It’s a bit odd, not least, as there’s a big souvenir shop nearby selling little wooden crosses which can be written on with a felt tip pen and planted amongst the ancient stuff that’s really interesting and has been there for a long time.A0E24329-3F5D-4159-B482-517DC607F67D
Apparently Lithuania was one of the last countries to adopt Christianity and judging by last nights shenanigans, one of the last to adopt decent music too!
After lunch and a thunderstorm, we moved on to Latvia and made our way to Riga. Found some quiet (ish) secure parking and had a walk in to the city. It’s huge. Quite spread out, with some nice old buildings. Bars and cafes everywhere- must be a good night out, but we were too tired …we are pensioners after all!
