Really, my husband should know this by now but still after 30 years he thinks I can climb up mountains …on my Bambi legs!
A bit of a sleepless night for us as we’d somehow parked in a wind tunnel. I thought the plastic lids on the roof vents were going to rip clean off at one point. Consequently, we didn’t wake up till 9:30 and were surprised to be completely surrounded by cloud.
We decided to wait it out for a while as the views are supposed to be spectacular from the top of Matind. It is, in fact a mountain, not just a viewpoint.
By 12:30 it was starting to clear and lots of locals were going up so we decided to have a go. I set off too fast as I was worried about how steep the path would get and there were people behind us. This walk/hike whatever people want to call it, turned into climbing ..no doubt about it. It’s not my forte – I turn into a clown 🤡! There were huge boulders towards the top; you couldn’t see where the path was supposed to be either. E8D5182C-F24D-477B-BAA8-C7D2A47EF21C
Once up there, it flattened out into a big wide path but there was still so much cloud you couldn’t see from one marker to the next. We knew we were on a ridge, but as there was nothing to be seen, gave up and decided to head back down. Which way though??

Somehow, instead of turning 180 degrees to retrace our steps, we only turned 90. Thankfully, we met some locals coming up and they pointed us in the right direction – the opposite one to which we were headed!

Back safely at the van, we were just going to drive down the road a short distance and park up for the rest of the day. As it should be sunny further south tomorrow, we changed our minds and drove all the way back to to Sortland – the blue town.8D21EFFD-B4A9-4853-AEC7-35895634EC3F The sun came out on the way providing fab views again and now were in a good spot to head south towards the Lofoten Islands tomorrow. Now, where’s the wine?
PS This is what we should have seen!
PPS Guy saw an elk today but was driving so no photo ☹️

I am NOT a Mountain Goat!
