55358957-74AC-457B-86BB-7FEDA8578291Rain again this morning! 🙄 Made our way to a place called Kinderdijk, a UNESCO site, where there are loads of old windmills. 85E6A20A-EA0C-4278-8D52-B603D3E59A3AI thought Holland still had a few dotted around, but didn’t expect anything like this. It’s a water management network of 19 mills, pumping stations, dykes and reservoirs, all controlling the water levels in the polder. There was a marker showing the highest level the water has reached and I’d be quite worried if I lived in one of those mills. Looks like plenty of people do though – they all seemed to be private, with well kept gardens.
We walked ‘the wrong way’ round bumping into a boat load of ‘cruisers’ and ‘selfie sticks’ at the halfway point. High winds and heavy rain managed to turn our trustee golfing umbrella inside out at one point.
Back on the motorways after lunch on our way to Vlissingen. They may have a lot of bikes here but we ‘ain’t never seen traffic like this. There’s always four or five lanes on the go and so much freight, but I suppose we are near the ports so it’s probably inevitable.
Arrived about 4:30 to meet up with Guy’s cycling buddy, Kristian who works on a super yacht which happens to be moored up here for a few months.
Had a fantastic couple of hours, but unfortunately, we couldn’t stay in the carpark in Vlissingen as there were ‘no camping’ signs. Driven back up the coast and parked by a nature reserve… just remarked on the number of cars driving past in the pitch black, pouring rain just to observe nature at 10pm!!!🤣🤣🤣F93180F3-AFB9-4AAC-A4C3-F17B4E2B90AC
