After four days of epic driving by Mr Bramley, we are finally home – I’m not sure how much of a relief it is, having looked around.
Coming through Spain and France (apart from Paris), the roads are virtually empty, everything is closed, apart from food shops. Petrol stations only have a small window open with one member of staff in mask and gloves.
We called at Auchan this morning, just for food for the next few days. This huge shop had been cordoned off, so only one entrance. Queue up one metre apart. One out, one in. Compulsory hand gel and trolley handle disinfected. Seemed to be plenty of food of all kind, only one group of men loading trollies up to the hilt – everyone else shaking their heads in disgust. Everyone was giving other people a very wide birth.
The tunnel was calm and quiet and we got on an earlier train. Not sure how come it was sold out and tip top price on the website.
We get to England and it’s like there’s nothing happening – so odd! Everything seems to be business as usual, roads solid with traffic -heads in the sand? Guy called in Sainsbury’s though, and couldn’t believe the empty shelves – why are people so selfish?
Thanks to everyone that has kept in touch, or read the ramblings, or looked at the photos, or offered accommodation. We’ve been really lucky to have a fab two months in the sun, but now we’re going to hibernate for ten days or so . Would hate to think we’d carried anything back from Spain and even though we’re fit and well, just want to be careful.
Would like to think we’ll be off again in the Summer, but I think it’s highly unlikely that it will be possible.
Stay healthy and happy all! X
