The very energetic one was up at some ungodly hour this morning – he went down to the lake to get a photo of the sun rising. I managed three more snores before the quarry opposite started work. 😬

After an early coffee, we both decided we were too tired to drive to Lake Maggiore, so came up with plan B – stay put and go for a walk.

Up in the town, we were distracted by the cable cars so went to see where they were going and how much. There were three stages, the final one ending up at the ski resort at Plateau Rosa. Half the price of the Swiss ones so we jumped in. We were a bit confused at the second stop and I think we nearly went back down by mistake 🙄When we finally got to the top we were amazed. Snow everywhere and people skiing and snowboarding…in August!!? We sat in a deckchair each watching people flying down the mountain side, lots of them just young school children. When the sun went in we got the shivers so took the next gondola down. As they were getting busy, we decided to walk the final two thirds back down the hills. I got my stick out again to be told “it’s only a path, stop treating it like K2” – he forgets there’s a sharp point on the end!

We could see the town after about half an hour but it just seemed to keep getting further away. Got there eventually but the wine has jumped out of the fridge very early to say it’s only Tuesday!
