After a quiet night in the city, we got up to find the car park rammed with cars; they were squeezed into every corner – not sure how we got out!

Making our way towards the Dolomites, we first took the scenic route to Vipiteno. I couldn’t believe it – two more mountain passes! The second one was like being on a shelf in the clouds. Everywhere was so green though – could tell we were close to the Austrian border.

Vipetino was a bit of a revelation. It was just like a non descript village on the outskirts – a mixture of wooden Tyrol chalets and modern concrete. Then, suddenly it has this one high street full of decorative colourful shops – really beautiful. A police car came down at one point telling people to put their masks on. The rule was just for that one street as it gets busy with shoppers.

We’d run out of water so had to move on and find some services. As we approached the Dolomites, the skies turned grey again but we could still see the sharp jagged peaks as we climbed up in first gear. Can’t believe how high we are again now! Had to pay to get on to a private road that bought us up to the parking at the Tre Cime Lavaredo. Now, we’ve just realised it’s only for 24hrs, then we’ll have to fork out some more Euros. Guy is desperate to get a sunrise or sunset photo of the ‘three chimneys’ but it’s possible we’ve miss-timed it with the weather .😬
