Had to do a bit of a route change this morning, as the tunnel we were heading towards seemed to be only inches wider than the van. Many, many, bends as we climbed our way up towards first Bormio, then Spondalunga. Amazing scenery if you can take your eyes off the road. Eventually, we got to the top of the Stelvio Pass – the road Guy has wanted to do for years…after it came on Top Gear! It’s definitely a boy thing.

The weather on my phone said snow at 5pm and although bright and sunny on the way up, whilst we stood at the top it did actually snow on us! Looking down at all the hairpin bends it didn’t seem as bad as some of the roads we’ve been on. Had lunch and coffee then started the downhill. 48 bends in total and positioning on the corners is everything in a big white box. Fortunately, it wasn’t busy and not too many coming round the corners in the middle of the road. Could smell the brakes a bit when we got to the bottom though! 😬

Carried on along the valley filled with apple trees towards Merano but couldn’t find anywhere to stay until we got to the city centre. Parked up with a load of other motorhomes in what I think is the market place – just hope the market isn’t in tomorrow 😂

Walked into the town, which is lovely – quite Austrian looking, but I think we are in the South Tyrol. Rather oddly, there was a dog crate in the corner of a courtyard, obviously used as it had a bowl of water in it. Looked like it belonged to the commune as it said ‘keys at police station’ on it. Would be pretty sad to put a dog in there in the middle of town. ☹️
