It’s not very often you wake up with a view of the sea and …flamingoes! Had a walk along the totally deserted beach this morning, but the wind chill factor caused a swift return to the van.
We ventured across one of the smaller roads to the western side of the Camargue. Saw some more bulls at a distance – which suits me.

On our way down to Saintes-Maries de la Mer, we decided to visit the Ornithological Park so that we could see the flamingoes en masse and close up.

How amazing! Thousands of them – lots of different species, pink, white, brown….all with a bit of attitude. We had a great afternoon following the tracks around the park. I made use of the birthday binoculars (now we’ve managed to focus them!) and went into full on Bill Oddie mode! 😂
We came across some wild horses, one with its mane full of sticky buds, poor thing. Made me think of when I got chewing gum stuck in my hair at school!
On the edge of one of the many streams, we saw a beaver. Too far away to get a decent photo but it’s head was massive- looked like a big bear in the water.
On the way out there were a couple of giant aviaries – don’t really like seeing birds in cages but these were apparently injured in some way, been rescued, but not now unable to survive in the wild. There was a ‘rather fat feathery owl called Sage’ who seemed to like having his picture taken. Actually, I don’t know what his name was, but he was cute!

Drive to the end of the road late afternoon – Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Didn’t think there’d be anyone here as it’s such a trek to get to, but the motorhome park is very busy with French ‘homies’ who’ve all had the same idea!
