Certainly packed it all in today! I think it was caused by the guilt of not waking up until 9:30!!
As we’d had a look around Gordes last night, we didn’t bother going back in this morning. As we drove out, we decided it was better looking at the whole place from a distance than actually being in it.

Thinking we’d missed something last night, we drove back down the road to Roussillon. Yes, we had missed something – a spectacular place. Ochre was once quarried here, and the rocks and houses all around are every shade between yellow and reddish purple – it’s beautiful. We walked up the trail known as the ‘Sentiers des Ocres’ full of weirdly shaped rocks between the trees …a photographer’s dream!
Next we drove further west to the fortified village of Les Baux-de-Provence. We climbed slowly up a twisting road to the Alpilles ridge and the town and castle suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
Stunning village, but parking was difficult and expensive at €5 an hour, then it seemed that there were entrance fees for everything. There was a bit of entertainment when a delivery driver came up one of the impossibly narrow streets – we could fully identify with his predicament! 🤣

As it was incredibly windy and cold, we didn’t stay very long.
Carried on south then to the less visited, eastern side of the Camargue. The first ten miles or so were very boring but then suddenly, the action started! Bulls and wild horses first, no chance of a photo as there was nowhere to stop. Then the salt flats and heaps of the stuff looking very strange in the setting sun.

Next, flamingoes, which we’d really hoped to see. They’re much smaller than I expected and look like tripods in the water. Unfortunately, the camera lens just doesn’t zoom in far enough 🙄( Obviously, the photographer needs another one!)

Finally, parked right at the end of the road at the Plage de Piémanson, just in time to see a spectacular sunset. We are in for a very windy night though!
