Well, we haven’t made much progress on our journey north today – sixteen miles to be exact. 😂
These little towns and villages around Périgueux are so beautiful; we definitely need to come back sometime and explore further.
Périgueux itself has a huge cathedral which dominates the skyline and a nice mediaeval centre. Quite a big town though but once we hit the outdoor market, we thought it was time for a sharp exit. We did see some of the biggest mushrooms ever for sale there though. They were the size of dinner plates and the locals were just picking them up, having a good sniff sans mask, then putting them back down and carrying on to the next stall! 🙄
Drove on to Bourdeilles next. A sleepy little village on a river with a chateau that looked more like a fortress. What a lovely place, made even better by the fact that the sun came out and it was about 23C. Saw a few vultures circling in the sky too.

Still heading north, we are now in Brantôme, a small town on an island in the middle of the River Dronne. It’s a very picturesque place with an abbey built against the rocks and caves. A few tourists about, some even packed into boats for trips up and down the river. We’ve parked up in the motorhome aire for €7 and it’s better than most campsites.
Bought a still warm baguette today from a little boulangerie. “Bonjour Madame, une baguette per favore ” 🙄🙄🙄 – my brain has gone frantalian!!
