Old Boat of Caol

All the stuff to do today! Water, toilet, drain, diesel, Lidl and Morrisons – took for everrr. Got it all done in Fort William but virtually everything had to be done in different places. Morrison’s petrol stations have been brilliant since we left Nottingham. We fill up with diesel then ask if we can use the outside tap and up to now, they’ve all been very obliging.

Went to park up for lunch by the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre and decided without any real aim, to have a walk up the path that goes up the mountain. Think we managed about a mile, when our legs just said ‘No!’. Think they’d had enough after yesterday – arms too, which is strange. Not used to that scrambling malarkey obvs.

Neptune’s Staircase

Drove out of town and parked by the Neptune’s Staircase – a series of locks built in the early nineteenth century.

Had a flat walk then, along the Caledonian Canal which led us to the Old Boat of Caol – a very photogenic old fishing boat stranded on the shoreline of the nearby loch. Fortunately, we just beat the rush before what seemed like the whole of the UK camera club arrived, with tripods and kit.
