Surprisingly, all the digital paperwork was in order and we boarded the ferry early. It’s so long since we last crossed the channel by boat rather than tunnel, we were a bit unsure what to expect. It was nowhere near as efficient and streamlined, but with a saving of £100 ish – why not? Four hours, half a book, and a big, reasonably priced plate of bœuf bourguignon later, we rolled off in Dieppe. The fridge, thankfully, went unchecked.😉

The rough plan is, over towards Brittany then south to Guy’s parents in the Gers region. Next, over the Pyrenees, followed by a circuit of Spain possibly touching into the top corner of Portugal…..and all this without a map, which I’ve left in the cupboard at home! I’ll have to do all my route highlighting retrospectively! ☹️

Instead of taking the sensible option and having a look around Dieppe this afternoon, we set off in a westerly direction on the slow roads to Deauville and arrived just as it was getting dark. Looks like a beautiful place – every house seems to be a mini chateau. We’ll explore tomorrow, but for now we’re holed up in a car park opposite a church. Apparently, the bells stop at 10pm and start again at 8am – sounds good to me!
