What a huge place this is! We were so surprised at the amount of high rise office blocks and apartments as we drove in, although I don’t know why, as all Spanish cities seem to be like this but they are really nice once you get into the centre. A Coruña is no exception – it’s lovely.

We parked at the port, which was expensive, but worth it for the security.

The Tower of Hercules was first on the ‘hit list’ – an ancient Roman lighthouse. As we walked up the coast towards it, we passed a lido next to a beach with people swimming and sunbathing. It must have been sheltered down there as we had our coats zipped up against the cool breeze. The lighthouse itself was brilliant – many steps up to the top obvs but the reward was amazing views over the whole city.
Once back on the ground we continued walking, following the coastline past numerous beaches – some with surfers trying their best on the big waves. At the narrowest point of the headland, we turned into the cobbled streets of the old town and came across the big, beautiful Praza de Maria Pita with more white framed glassed in balconies. In the tiny streets off it, tapas bars were buzzing with life, most people stood outside in their coats. We had a coffee and decided to return later after a leg rest!

At around 8pm, we ventured out for some tapas and a few drinks. Most people were still shopping in the dark but the bars and cafes were starting to fill up. Even though it was cold, everyone seemed to prefer sitting outside.

We had a bit of a struggle with the menus again …I think DuoLingo will have to come out of hibernation! The funniest was assuming that Pimientos de Padrón (temporada) meant that the green peppers were in tempura batter 🙄 Nooo…of course not – it means seasonal! Not available tonight. 😂

Seemed to get home at warp speed. A good night out with lots of wine for about a quarter of the price we’d pay back home. 👍
