Freezing cold this morning, but we did inadvertently leave two roof vents wide open though. 🙄
The van containing the Airedale puppy had already left by the time we surfaced – obviously realised there was a risk of kidnap.

By the time we set off for a walk into Saumur it looked warm and sunny…it wasn’t!
We were parked on an island in the middle of the Loire, so had to walk up and across the big bridge, then back on ourselves to get to town. Lots of tables and chairs going out so obviously expecting an influx of tourists by the middle of the day. The river looked so different at its normal level. Last time we saw it, it had completely burst its banks with cars floating around.
Back at the van, we tried to find a different route south, but it was a long way to the nearest motorway.
After negotiating a covered bridge that was barely wide enough for two way traffic, the driver breathed a massive sigh of relief when we hit the N10. Celebrated with a trip to Lidl, a baguette and some Normandy butter.

Arrived in Angoulême just before 4pm and walked up the steep roads into the town. Much more lively than last time, but 21°C makes a big difference, even with an arctic chill.

We decided a bière et Aperol Spritz were in order, but then the sun went in and reminded us, it’s only March!

We did see some of the cartoon murals this time though. Angoulême is famous for its comic books and holds an international festival each January. Certainly a nice vibrant place and was worth a second visit.
