Well, it was a quiet ish night in the car menders yard – apart from the dogs who were out-snoring Guy! Now that takes some doing. I’d had so much coffee, I was counting caffeine sheep till about 2am.

This morning, the kind owner came to unlock the gates, asked if we’d slept well and filled us up with water! On our way by 9:30 and the van seems fine.

Still quite a long way to the Bulgarian border. The passport control bods always come in for a look around – sure they’re just being nosy! 🤣

Called at Lidl somewhere near Sofia – not a great area, but we got what we needed. Then turned off from the main road to Greece so that we could visit the Rila Monastery. It was further away than we first thought, up a long winding road into the hills, where we could see snow on the tops!

This place really has the wow factor! It’s amazing. A UNESCO listed site with very good reason. Callum had recently bought a jigsaw back for his grandparents from Bulgaria, and it was a photo of this place! Took them ages to do it – would’ve taken me even longer. It’s all beautiful arches and paintwork and is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox Monastery complex in Bulgaria.

Inside is just as breathtaking but no photos allowed. We were lucky enough to go in just as the monks were starting the singing/chanting thing – send shivers down your spine.

Now parked up for the night in their car park for €10 – should be nice and quiet.
